Kante is the white whale of PSG transfers.
The Frenchman has been coveted in the French capital since his breakout season in 2015-16 with Leicester City where he led the Foxes to an unprecedented Premier League title.
Kante’s rise to fame led to a move to Chelsea FC where he has continued to blossom into one of the best midfielders in the world and best known for his remarkable work rate (and smile).
Chelsea’s grip on the 29-year-old midfielder appears to be slipping as 90min is now reporting that the Blues would be willing to part ways with the former PFA Player of the Year if PSG formalizes their offer and makes an acceptable bid.
What that number might be is anyone’s guess. Transfermarkt puts the former SM Caen player’s value at €80 million but with three years left on his current contract, Chelsea may demand slightly more.
Another factor that could increase the transfer fee is interest from Real Madrid. However, Zinedine Zidane has some high-profile transfer targets in mind so he may not be willing to break the bank for Kante when he will need to spend big to sign Erling Haaland and Eduardo Camavinga.
PSG will also need to be cautious when spending big on Kante. The club has serious needs to fill in the squad and Kante has been injured several times this season. Could it be a case of his famous work rate catching up to him or is it just bad luck? PSG may need to splash the cash to find out.
