Kylian Mbappé has withdrawn from the France squad after testing positive for coronavirus, while he is now poised to miss the start of the Ligue 1 season.
France play Croatia in Paris on Tuesday evening in their second Nations League fixture, But will now do so without the PSG forward.
France Football have reported that Mbappé is asymptomatic and has returned home to quarantine. However, his positive test is set to also impact his participation for PSG when their Ligue 1 campaign gets underway on Thursday.
He will not be available to face Lens on Thursday or Marseille on Sunday as PSG get their Ligue 1 title defence underway.
"Kylian Mbappe will not participate in France versus Croatia on Tuesday evening at 20:45CET at the Stade de France," a statement from the French FA read.
"The result of his Covid-19 test carried out by UEFA on Monday morning was found to be positive. He was placed away from the group after receiving the results, at the end of training, before going back to his own home in the evening.
"Like the entire delegation, Kylian Mbappe had undergone a test prior to the games of the international break. The result was negative, like the one last Wednesday, at the request of UEFA, before Sweden against France."
The news leaves PSG hugely depleted ahead of the new season. Mbappe is now the French champions' seventh player to test positive for Covid-19 following the Champions League final.
The French outfit were unable to secure their maiden European crown as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League final, but they now have much bigger problems on their hands.
Mauro Icardi, Angel Di Maria and Leandro Paredes all tested positive following a trip to Ibiza, as have Neymar, Keylor Navas and Marquinhos.
Mbappe played, and found the net, during his last outing, scoring the winner in France's 1-0 victory over Sweden on Saturday.
